Why here

A local, Belgian, hands-on thing to do in Brussels

Looking for things to do in Brussels that aren't another museum queue? The Waffle Workshop is a 90-minute hands-on cooking activity in the historic centre where you make the real thing yourself: you whisk the batter, you press the iron, you decide how much chocolate goes on top. It is one of the most local, most Belgian activities you can book in the city, and one of the very few where you leave with a full stomach and a recipe you can repeat at home.

The workshop is a genuinely cultural activity as much as a culinary one. We start with a short introduction to the delicious world of waffles — where the Brussels waffle comes from, how it differs from the Liège waffle, and how locals actually eat them. Then we split into teams and start cooking. No previous cooking experience is needed, which makes it an easy family activity in Brussels: kids are welcome, and there is nothing about it that requires being a chef.

Because everything happens indoors at our own venue between the Grand Place and Brussels-Midi, it is also a reliable rainy day activity in Brussels — the Belgian weather has no say in it. Groups, birthdays, team outings and school trips can book a private Brussels waffle workshop, and adults can upgrade to the Tipsy version with three local Belgian beers tasted alongside the baking.

Really enjoyed the experience. Our host was engaging and was forgiving when my sons made lots of mistakes as they failed to listen to instructions. We made 20 waffles between us and really enjoyed exploring the toppings. Would recommend for all — couples, solos and families.

We had so much fun! We brought our 4 small children and they were very family friendly. The instructions were clear and they helped us have a fantastic experience! And of course the Brussels style waffles were delicious. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I had a great time and met some really great people as well! The host was really funny and also knowledgable. He taught us a lot about waffles and the different types and how the locals eat their waffles which was interesting.

Last minute fuss free online registration on Christmas morning. One of the fun activities that anyone can do on Christmas Day where most retails are closed. Wonderful fun friendly instructor. Remember not to eat before class as it's an eat all you can waffle session!
