Waffle Workshopin Ghent
Authentic Belgian waffle making in the pedestrian heart of Ghent, in a historic house on the Leie.

A local, Belgian, hands-on thing to do in Ghent
Ghent rewards people who go looking for the local version of things, and the Waffle Workshop is the local version of a food tour: instead of watching someone else bake, you make the batter, run the iron and eat the results in a historic house on the Leie, one minute from the Korenmarkt. It is a top-rated indoor activity in Ghent and an easy, genuinely Belgian thing to do between the Gravensteen and Saint Bavo's.
As a cultural activity it punches above its weight. Belgian waffles are a national argument — Brussels versus Liège, sugar versus icing sugar, fork versus hand — and the workshop starts with a short intro to that story before the whisking starts. As a family activity in Ghent it needs no cooking skills at all, and the all-you-can-eat format means kids leave delighted and adults leave uncomfortably full.
And when the Flemish sky does what it usually does, this becomes the best rainy day activity in Ghent: a warm room, a hot iron and unlimited toppings. Adults can choose the version with three local Belgian beers, and private workshops in Ghent are available for groups, teams and celebrations.

“Really enjoyed the experience. Our host was engaging and was forgiving when my sons made lots of mistakes as they failed to listen to instructions. We made 20 waffles between us and really enjoyed exploring the toppings. Would recommend for all — couples, solos and families.”
“We had so much fun! We brought our 4 small children and they were very family friendly. The instructions were clear and they helped us have a fantastic experience! And of course the Brussels style waffles were delicious. Highly recommend!”
“My boyfriend and I had a great time and met some really great people as well! The host was really funny and also knowledgable. He taught us a lot about waffles and the different types and how the locals eat their waffles which was interesting.”
“Last minute fuss free online registration on Christmas morning. One of the fun activities that anyone can do on Christmas Day where most retails are closed. Wonderful fun friendly instructor. Remember not to eat before class as it's an eat all you can waffle session!”
